December 9 Session

Our characters are in the city and just finishing leveling up and as a result we're 20 weeks into the campaign in game time. Our party now ranges from second level multi-class characters to fourth level characters. I'll make a post about leveling up later this week, always a point of contention with players!
The party was approached by one of the blacksmiths from the Merchant District. Turns out the merchants are being shaken down by a mean and heavily armed group as part of a protection racket. Those merchants who refuse are beaten and the one that went to the city guard was found in pieces later.
The party decided to let the collections happen, then followed the collector to their hide out, which was an old warehouse in the wrong part of town. The first floor of the warehouse was pretty empty except for barrels of rotting and spoiled food, cobwebs, and lots of dust. The entire first floor smelled really bad. It had two rooms with locked doors that banging was coming from. The party forced open the door to the first room with a crowbar and moaning zombies spilled out! This combat took awhile (there were a lot of them), but the party was able to create a kill zone as the zombies could only exit through the doorway. Two of the party members went pretty low with hit points from this.
The second room (also a locked door) had my home brew undead, the kind which regenerate. One of the party members found this out the hard way after examining the "dead" creatures. It also had a staircase to the second floor.
Upon entering the stairs, the party forgot to check for traps and snapped the trip wire which was attached to a heavy crossbow.
Needless to say, the combat from downstairs wasn't quiet so the villains in the protection racket were ready for the party. The party smartly cast a sleep spell and then the thief went and killed all the sleeping villains. This was done before attempting to interrogate the bad guys, which was a point of contention with the rest of the party.
After tidying up this quest, the party was detained in their inn by the city guard. Then the Rectus Teritus (number three priest) for Rectus Deus walked into the inn. He used the word "marvelous" in almost every sentence, cluing the party to the fact that they actually met him earlier as one of the audience members in the arena cheering on nonhumans fighting bears and wolves. The Rectus Teritus has been pretty beaten up.
The party was ordered to find and stop the criminal figure "Mother" who runs loan sharking and protection rackets in this part of the city. The party's clue was to start at Meghan's Inn. Meghan is a business owner who runs several inns in town (Meghan's Inn, Meghan's Insula, and Meghan's Home for Wayward Travelers). The rest of the session was spent planning!
