December 2 Session

Our 1E AD&D campaign continued on the 2nd.  Our heroes had cleared out the tower in the forest and the temple beneath it that was teeming with undead.  Now it was time to head back and resolve several of the side quests that they were on.

Unfortunately, unlike the way to the tower, the way back was filled with random encounters (luck of the dice on that one) including extra large and aggressive wolves and a pack of gnolls.  Our party returned to the mystic's compound to be healed and to collect Ferris.  Ferris had been escorted by the party to the mystic because he had been possessed and only the mystic could help.  The party was to escort him back to the city of Greymane, but he didn't want to go!  He is now a convert and wants to stay in the mystic's compound, make his own clothes, grow his own food, and pray a lot.  The party asked for him to write a letter letting the head of the Mage's Guild know that he is not coming back.  That letter is below.  It reveals several important details:
  • The head of the Mage's Guild is his mom
  • She made him read the book that got him possessed
  • She is obsessed with regaining her power and social standing in the town
But, nobody in the party read the letter.  So when it gets delivered to the Mage's Guild the party won't know why they have a new enemy!

After returning the the city and checking back into The Broken Gourd, the party was approached by several individuals wanting to buy them drinks in thanks for cleaning up the city!  Two of the party accepted and were poisoned by those four, who work for the criminal boss that they ran afoul of earlier.

There was a large discussion about what to do with treasure.  The party had found a truly evil book, one of those books that makes evil clerics more powerful.  They were warned to destroy the book, instead they sold it to the Brotherhood of the Blue Rose, an order of monks that one of the party belongs to, who "promised" to destroy it.  I had only planned for the book to be a cursed item when I put it in the dungeon, but now it's going to show up several more times in the adventure.

After paying and training to level up (which you have to do in 1E) the party is about 20 weeks into this adventure.  Next week we'll introduce the other organized crime figure to the party, Mother.
