November 4 Session
After breaking up the fight ring last week that was run by the crime boss known as Death's Queen, our adventurers woke in their rooms at the Broken Gourd when their doors were opened and poisonous snakes were thrown into the rooms. After dealing with the snakes they found calling cards on the floor indicating that Death's Queen is not going to let things go.
Despite this, our heroes had agreed to travel to the Mage's Guild to take on a quest to save Ferris. As they traveled through the Unders (the slums of the city), someone fired a crossbow at them from a rooftop, barely missing one of the party.
At the Mage's Guild the Guild Mistress introduced them to Ferris, a pleasant 19 year old young man. Ferris isn't too bright and during his studies got a book on demonology and managed to summon something very evil, which has possessed him. The Guild Mistress warned the party that the Entity manifests itself randomly and its goal is to get Ferris killed so that it can go back to its plane and take Ferris' soul with it. The party decided it would be prudent to bind Ferris' hands and take away his spellbook as they took him to the mystic at the edge of the forest to exorcise him. The Guild Mistress gave the party her seal to help them get out of trouble ("Tell them you are on my business!").
As the party left the city it encountered a patrol of city guards. Ferris' entity manifested and began shrieking for help, yelling that it was really a little child who had a spell put on it so the party could take him out of the city and sacrifice him to the Betrayer. After talking their way out of that encounter the party left the city and traveled down the merchant road for their five day journey to the mystic's compound.
The party encountered a group of Rectus Deus followers, one of whom was a paladin who could sense the evil in Ferris and insisted on talking to him. The Entity attacked the paladin's religion and his stupidity for following a religion that ultimately served the Betrayer, perhaps foreshadowing a future direction of the campaign.
Three days into the journey the party approached the bridge that crossed the Flumen Rufus Parvus. As they got closer to the bridge they encountered debris and many dead bodies that had been shot with crossbow bolts (some in the back while fleeing) and picked clean. The party's ranger scouted ahead and found that the bridge had been barricaded and a large number of bandits were there attacking anyone that approached.
The party decided to attack the bandits, began with an entagle spell, and then a crossbow and bow duel ensued until the bandits were dead. After looting the bandits the party found that every one bore the mark of the evil god the Betrayer.
A day out from the bridge the party encountered a dwarven convoy, heavily armed and armored. Ferris burst his bindings and ran towards the convoy shouting "Dwarves! I love dwarves! So cute and cuddly!" He also began shouting that short people have no reason to live. The party tackled him and talked their way through the encounter.
At last the party reached the mystic's compound and were greeted by a serious looking paladin named Sir Carus. The compound was full of people wearing white, growing their own food, making their own clothes, and wearing flowers in their hair. The Entity began shrieking "No! Not the flower children!" as Ferris was taken away for healing.
As the party rested up and ate they were told about a tower in the forest, about eight days away, that seemed to have the undead coming from it. There had been a battle a few years ago between the forces of Rectus Deus and the Betrayer. The leadership of Rectus Deus had disappeared after that and the religion was on hard times ever since. The party agreed to head towards the tower to investigate and that's where the session ended.
